In wordsquare solving mode CrossStar looks much like it does in crossword mode, with a solutions window on the left and a grid on the right. Grid cells can't be filled in, but the cursor can be positioned in the grid and text entered in the same way.
The button area is different though.
If you have a wordsquare you want solving, for example in a magazine, enter it in the grid area by positioning the cursor and typing. When the grid is full, click on the Solve button. All the words found will appear in the solutions window. If you click on a word in the solutions window it will be highlighted in the grid so you can find it. The picture shows a wordsquare that has been solved.
Notice that the solution 'cannibalized' is selected in the solutions window and its position in the grid is highlighted in the grid window.
If you want a new wordsquare generating at random, click on the New button. The grid window will fill with random letters. You can see the possible solutions by clicking on the Solve button.
If you have a list of words that you want to generate a wordsquare from they have to be entered into the solutions window. To do this you can type each word into the writable icon to the left of the button marked Delete and then press return. Alternatively a text file of words can be dragged and dropped into the Solutions window. When all the words have been entered, click on the Make button and a wordsquare will be generated. If you have entered a word and want to get rid of it, select it in the solutions window and then click on the Delete button.
